On July 30, 2021, Officer J Woody was dispatched to the scene of an accident at the intersection of West Pike Street and Old Norcross Road.
The accident occurred at 10:15.
Mr. C Skinner was driving an International MV607 truck and Mr. D Fortin was driving a Ford Explorer.
Mr. Skinner was traveling northwest on West Pike Street and Mr. Fortin was traveling southeast on West Pike Street approaching Old Norcross Road.
Mr. Skinner stated that he intended making a left turn into the parking lot of the RaceTrac Convenience Store located at 444 West Pike Street.
Mr. Skinner further stated that he observed a large semi-detached truck stopped in the first southbound lane. He thought the roadway was clear to make a left turn.
Mr. Fortin advised that Mr. Skinner’s vehicle turned directly into his lane of travel and Mr. Fortin’s vehicle’s right front bumper struck Mr. Skinner’s left front bumper.
A witness to the incident, Mr. J Amelio stated that his vehicle was stopped in traffic on West Pike Street when Mr. Skinner’s vehicle began to make a left turn in front of him.
A “Do Not Enter” sign is posted at that access point to RaceTrac.
Mr. Skinner did not sustain any injury and Mr. Fortin complained of injury but refused medical transport after being assessed by emergency services on scene.
Mr. Skinner’s vehicle sustained moderate damage and was removed by himself. Mr. Fortin’s vehicle sustained extensive damage and was removed by Lance Wrecker.
Mr. Skinner was cited in terms of O.C.G.A. 40-6-73 “Failure to yield entering roadway”.
The weather was cloudy, and the surface conditions and light condition were good.
The accident was reported in Lawrenceville, Gwinnett County.
