Cellphone Use Cause Accident on Paper Mill Road (Lawrenceville)

On April 26, 2021 Officer M Lee was dispatched to the scene of an accident at the intersection of Paper Mill Road and Ezzard Street.

A Chrysler 200 drive by Ms. S McCollum and a Honda Civic driven by Ms. J Trice were involved in a collision.

Both vehicles were traveling westbound on Paper Mill Road.

Ms. Trice’s vehicle was stopped behind two other vehicles. The front vehicle was waiting to turn left into Ezzard Street.

Ms. McCollum stated that she looked at her cellphone/GPS and did not have time to stop before rear-ending Ms. Trice’s vehicle.

Ms. Trice stated that a third vehicle was involved.

Her vehicle was pushed into this vehicle with the force of the collision with Ms. McCollum’s vehicle.

The unknown driver of the third vehicle, described only as black, examined his vehicle, and left the scene.

There was extensive damage to Ms. McCollum’s vehicle and moderate damage to Ms. Trice’s vehicle.

The weather, surface and light conditions were good.

Ms. McCollum was cited in terms of O.C.G.A. 40-6-49 “Following Too Closely” and O.C.G.A. 40-6-241(b) “Distracted Driving”.

The accident was reported in Lawrenceville, Gwinnett County.
