On May 21, 2021 Officer J D Rodriguez was dispatched to the scene of an accident at the intersection of Williams Drive and Guffin Lane.
The accident occurred at 02:07.
Mr. A McDougal was driving a Nissan Maxima and Mr. J Elledge was driving a Ford Fiesta.
Mr. McDougal was traveling north against oncoming traffic on Guffin Lane.
Mr. Elledge was traveling south on Guffin Lane.
Mr. Elledge stated that he saw Mr. McDougal in the wrong lane and waited for a second to see if he would move over.
Mr. McDougal did not move to his correct lane and Mr. Elledge tried to go around him. As he did so, Mr McDougal accelerated, striking Mr. Elledge’s vehicle head-on.
Mr. McDougal was incapable of answering the officer’s questions coherently.
Due to the odor of alcohol on Mr. McDougal’s breath, the DUI unit was called to the scene, and took over the case.
Mr. McDougal was cited in terms of O.C.G.A. 40-6-40 “Failure to stay in lane”, O.C.G.A. 40-5-32 “Expiration of licence” and O.C.G.A. 40-8-76,1 “Failure to use safety belt”.
The accident was reported in Cobb County.
